We got up at 7:30 a.m., walked to the ACME(our cars were snowed in already!) to get provisions to make cookies (I got the last dozen eggs!) and I just had a fantastic day. We had cinnamon rolls for breakfast, watched a little TV, played in the yard with Sam, I baked like 24 dozen cookies (and I have some dough for snickerdoodles chilling over night), we played Star Trek Scene It that we got for Christmas from my mom (she wanted us to open our gifts early) and all in all, it was a great work free snowed in day!

Under the cut I have pictures of the snow (omg over two feet!) and the Cookies. And Sam! :-) This is the most snow we have gotten since we moved to Delaware over 5 years ago! I love it! I miss snow!

Also, I posted my Yuletide story!

I do not knit - I would love to learn how, but I do not know how. (my grandma tried once, like 10 years ago, I tried, I really did.)

However! My sister does knit!! And she is going to knit this for me - Boo! The Bat! I just need to buy her the pattern and send her enough materials to make some for me and my niece.

SO. We have no knitting shops around here an no place to buy yarn other than Michaels.

I already bought the pattern and here is the yarn it calls for: worsted weight wool yarn, such as Cascade 220, in two colors, plus small amount of white. So where would one find nice yarn on the internets for a good price?

My sister already made this for me and it turned out AWESOME!

Today I learned that [livejournal.com profile] deejay435, who has been fighting cancer for years left the hospital and moved to hospice. She posted about it, and I am happy that she is happy and at peace and that I got a chance to say goodbye, but I am also very sad.

Cancer always makes me feel so helpless. [livejournal.com profile] tigersvoice reminded me that there was something I could do - She made a post about not waiting until cancer touches your life to do something about it - both Dee and my Grandma were treated at the University of Michigan Cancer Center, so I made a donation in their honor tonight.

We had a wonderful evening. I made Roasted Pork Loin with a garlic/rosemary/pepper rub, Baked Apples, and Scalloped Potatoes for dinner. And then I finished the Chocolate Pudding Pie I've been making for two days and we had that for dessert.

Yum!

And we watched a few more episodes of Friday Night Lights, caught the end of Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve, and watched an episode of 30 Rock.

All in all? Curled up on the couch with my husband and my puppy was the most fantastic way to ring in the New Year. :-) (Sam was not a fan of the fireworks going off downtown, so she was extra snuggly.)

Tomorrow, there is UofM football, we're taking down the Christmas decorations, and I have leftovers. I also got a Ravioli Mold, so I can make the chocolate ravioli's I've been wanting to try out. Yay!

I hope everyone had (or will have) a wonderful time ringing in 2008!

11 days and 2,366.2 miles later I am home!

I need to unpack, but that can wait until tomorrow cause I am OMG so tired and if I'm doing anything tonight it's going to be finishing my [livejournal.com profile] sg_flyboys story. (which it's not.)

The trip was wonderful, my family is wonderful, and my BIL, while he gives "technically" correct directions could use some help on specifics, is wonderful. I am happy to be home.

Now I have a week to unpack, relax, and get things settled around here before I start the new job next Monday. :-)

The entire route! Click to make bigger.

(1) My husband. We meet at home almost every day for lunch and it just makes me so happy. We sit in the sun room, eat sandwiches, watch The People's Court, and talk about our day.

(2) Sam. She is the most adorable fuzzy butt in the world. She is the Queen of the Sofa now. At one point last night I had a butt on my shoulder and a tail in my face while she used my leg to brace her flailing ones. SO CUTE.

(3) Cupcakes. I made these Old Fashioned Chocolate Cupcakes last night with a Chocolate Buttercream Frosting. They are SO fantastic. And are probably the favorite thing I've made in a long time. This is now my default chocolate cupcake. I didn't take pictures this time, but I will next time.

(4) My Friends. Last night I had to make an quick run to the ACME and I got totally judged and snarked at by the check-out girl, so I called [livejournal.com profile] smittywing so she could laugh about it with me, and it was just nice. As soon as I walked out of the store, my first thought was "OMG I have to call [livejournal.com profile] smittywing! She'll think this is hilarious." And she did. And then I IM'd [livejournal.com profile] wojelah about it when I got home. :-)

(5) My life. I'm happy. I'm actually really happy. Work is going well and when it ends I have a fantastic new job. I love my husband and my dog. Everyone in my family is doing well and I have the most beautiful niece in the world. And aside from a few little things everyone is getting along.

So flist, tell me - what makes you happy?
